Indoor Air Leading to Health Issues in Plano
Posted on March 30th, 2009 No commentsIt would sound crazy to for someone to say that the air in your home can make you sick, but it really is true. Depending on who you believe, indoor air pollution can be 25-100% worse than outdoor air pollution. While the air here in Plano seems pretty good, the air in your home could be hurting you.
In laymen’s terms, for the last 20 years houses have been built a lot tighter because builders are trying to keep your heating and cooling bills down by eliminating lost “conditioned” air through cracks and whatnot. That’s not always good. Those cracks would usually allow the air to circulate better and provide you with cleaner, fresher air to breathe in your home. That’s why today’s houses are less healthy.
Since you can’t poke a bunch of holes in your house, manufacturers have had to come up with better filtration. The best so far is the Trane Clean Effects filter. It’s the world’s most effective whole-house air filtration system. It simply hooks up into your air conditioning system like any filter, and as air passes through , it actually cleans the air inside your house like no other product. It’s a very, very good system, and you can go to our main site to read about the Trane Clean Effects Filter.

Best Brand of Central Air Conditioner Equipment For Your Home
Posted on March 29th, 2009 3 commentsYou know, I’ve been working on air conditioning for going on 30 years now. There are lots of brands out there but people asks me all the time, whats’ the best brand? To be very honest with you, there’s a lot of good brands out there. The thing is, you can take the worst brand and make it last almost as long as the best brand, as long as it’s installed properly.
A proper installation on the air conditioning system is the most important part of the job. If you get some air conditioning contractor who cuts corners on a certain procedure, it can ruin your equipment. Things like:
- he doesn’t pull a good vacuum on it to make sure there’s no moisture in the air conditioning system or
- he gets the copper line too hot (it will flake up and get into the compressor)
- he doesn’t level the unit and the oil seeps to one side causing the bearings to wear out on one sid
If you’re really looking for an unbiased opinion on just the equipment though, I can tell you this. Consumer Reports ranked the top manufacturers and this is what they decided.
American Standard was number one. Ruud was number two and Trane was number three. The rest of the top companies were TempStar, Rheem, Lennox, Comfort Maker, Bryant, Heil, Coleman, Carrier, Goodman, York and Janitrol.

Air Conditioning Service Tip
Posted on March 29th, 2009 2 commentsThe other day a client asked me “What’s the best thing to do to save money with your air conditioning system?”
I told him, the main thing is what you really need to do is just maintain the system. If you change your filter, at least 4 times a year, that’ll help improve the airflow and make the system cool properly for you.
Also on the outside unit, clean the condenser coil, and it’s a very very simple process. Usually there’s a box on the outside, a disconnect box that looks like a breaker, you just open it up and turn it off. You get a water hose and you get over there and you just start spraying through the grills until you see the dirt go a way. Just take your time. You’re probably gonna get a little wet because the water is gonna be spraying on you. But as long as all that dirt is gone outside, the unit can breath easier, and if that outside unit can breath easier, then it saves you money. Because the air conditioner can work easier and the compressor doesn’t have to work as hard (the compressor is the electric motor that uses electricity). If it’s under a bind then it’s gonna cost more money. It can really save you money — up to 25 to 33 percent sometimes.
